Insurance write-off after fire

I purchased a second hand 57 plate Citroen C4 Picasso on 18th September 2012 from Arnold Clark, Last night it caught fire whilst driving and its now just a metal shell. Is this not a sale of goods problem as the vehicle was not fit for purpose and was dangerous. I called Arnold Clark and they aren't interested.

Will I really have to lose 7 years no claims and suffer the loss of my excess and probably lose over £3k in the coming 7 years on insurance increases.

You can't prove that the car spontaneously combusted due to a fault. You could try by employing a fire damage forensic inspector but that would cost you a fortune with no guarantee that the fault was with the car.
