Ford Escort - Do I have any dealer redress? - Richard Preston
More than a year ago I bought an 80s classic car from a Dealer who specialises in a different marque.

A typical average price for one of these cars in good condition is around £25k but I paid £34k for mine because it had low mileage and was in very good condition. I remain happy with the car..

The value of these cars is with their originality and that’s what I assumed I was buying by virtue of the price premium. I’ve recently discovered that the interior of the car has been changed at some time in its history.

It will cost approximately £2,500 to change the interior to restore originality and I’ve asked the Dealer to fund or contribute towards this cost. He has refused.

Do I have any redress against the Dealer?

Appreciate any words of wisdom, thank you.

Presumably this is an RS Turbo of some description. Even at £35k I would be very surprised if all of it was totally original. Did you check over the car before purchasing to establish that the interior was correct ? It’s unlikely the dealer is going to do anything after a year . On a side note , not sure why anyone would pay this sort of money for a Ford when there are plenty of other more interesting classics out there .

Other than dabbling with oldish 205s from time to time, I know nothing about the 'classic car' market. I would just assume that the ancient dictum of Caveat Emptor applies here, perhaps more thoroughly than in many other places ?

Unless the car was advertised as having the original interior I'm not sure why you would think that you have any redress?
