Goodwood Festival of Speed 2014: Revised Focus ST to debut

Published 24 June 2014

The revised Ford Focus ST will make its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this week. With a new design first seen on the facelifted Focus at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, the updated performance ST model gets quality improvements and new technology.

Alongside the 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine, which has been improved for economy, Ford is also introducing a diesel version of the ST, powered by a 2.0 TDCi engine with 185PS that will rival the Volkswagen Golf GTD. The revised Focus ST will go on sale this summer alongside the rest of the facelifted Focus range.

Also being shown at Goodwood is the new Ford Mustang, making its first appearance in the UK before going on sale here in 2015. The right-hand drive Mustang is powered by either a 5.0-litre V8 with 426PS or an intriguing 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine designed to offer turbocharged performance with better economy.

It produces 309PS along with 407Nm of torque, although there are no economy figures as yet. Alongside the standard manual, an optional automatic gearbox is available with steering wheel mounted paddle shifts. Alongside the Mustang coupe, Ford will also have a Mustang Convertible on display. Prices are expected to start at just £30,000 with the top V8 model an extra £5000.

Ford is also teaming up with Sony to stage a 'virtual vs real' race on the hill route. On its first run each day, the new Focus ST will compete in real time against the Focus ST featured in Gran Turismo 6 on the PlayStation 3.

A designated gamer at the Ford stand will match skills against Ben Collins – formerly The Stig from Top Gear – with the action displayed on big screens throughout the festival. Visitors to the Ford stand also have the chance to record their own times on Gran Turismo 6 simulators.
