What is the law about parking up a motorhome by the side of the road or in a car park and sleeping inside it for the night? This is known as "roaming" in the motorhome community.

Generally speaking, you can park up for a night as long as you are not causing an obstruction or breaking any rules that prohibit overnight parking. If you are staying for longer than a single night on a road with no parking restrictions then local authority rules tend to come into force. Some councils, for example, might see it as human habitation and ask you to move on if you appear to be living on the public road long-term.
