Is a diesel van a no go if I only do journeys of 10 miles?
I want to change my Ford Connect for a Transit or Transit Custom. Most of my journeys are less than 10 miles - will I have DPF problems?

Diesel engines are not designed for short runs from cold. The DPF alone needs 15 - 20 miles to complete its regeneration cycle. The usage you've described will also significantly shorten the life of the engine because the oil will never reach optimum operating temperature. If buying a new van, consider the PHEV version of the Transit Custom. Or (if buying used) seek a petrol version of the T6 Transporter.
