Best medium sized van for conversions?

I'm looking to buy a panel van to be professional converted by some guys at Action Vans near Southampton. I'm looking for the safest, most reliable with lowest emissions.

My heart says a Volkswagen T5, but I'm not sure on emissions. I'm also considering Transit, Euro NCAP 5, and better emissions and drives very car like and the Renault lowest emissions by a country mile but nor sure on reliability. What would you recommend or should I be looking at something else altogether?

Volkswagen is now up to speed with manifold in head diesel engines, but belt cam. The Renault 1.6 dCi is manifold in head and chain cam. Been around since 2010 and I have not had any adverse reports. The Trafic has a usefully low floor. Not sure about Ford's 2.2 but that is chain cam.
