Which small van would you recommend to use as a camper for under £2500?

I'm looking to buy a small van, e.g. Ford Transit Connect (LWB, high top). The plan is to use it as a small camper at weekends and drive it as my everyday vehicle during the week, so I need a reasonable amount of space. I only have £2000 - £2500 to spend. Is it worth buying a van with 125,000+ mileage? What small vans would you recommend for this? Please offer any other useful advice too.

The Ford Transit Connect, Citroen Berlingo and the Peugeot Partner are plentiful on the used market, which means you can afford to be quite picky when shopping around with a limited budget. My recommendation would be the Ford, although the Citroen and Peugeot vans have a reputation for being cheap and capable vans. If buying from a private seller, insist on seeing the van at the seller’s address – where it should be registered. The vehicle should have a history file to show it's had an oil change every 10,000 miles or 12 months (whichever is sooner) and avoid vehicles with rust as this points towards poor repair work or maintenance. Don’t be afraid of higher mileage vehicles, as they often have an easier time of it than lower mileage, short drop vans.
