The MoT Files 2017: Van manufacturers ranked from best to worst
The average pass rate for vans is significantly lower than for cars. That makes logical sense really – vans generally cover twice as many miles as your average car. They also lead hard lives, pounding up and the roads full of tools and equipment.
We’ve analysed previously unseen MoT data from the Government to reveal the best and worst van manufacturers for MoT performance.
Ford – 53.5% MoT pass rate
Ford’s MoT File is a mixed bag, with the previous-generation Transit dragging down the average by a considerable margin. However, with almost 800,000 vans going through the MoT system every year, you have to drill into the numbers to see which Fords are best for passing the test. The Ranger for example, has one of the best three-year MoT pass rates of any pick-up (81 per cent) while the Transit’s woeful 64 per cent rate makes it one of the worst.
