Renault renews Master and Trafic line-ups for 2019

Renault has announced a raft of important updates for the Master and Trafic, with revised interiors, lower running costs and new engines. The 2019 versions of the Master and Trafic will go on sale in the autumn.

Renault hasn't released any details on pricing, but the updated Master van is expected to start in the region of £26,000 while the revised Trafic is expected to cost from £22,500 (both excluding VAT).

The 2019 Master is powered by a revised range of 2.3-litre dCi turbodiesel engines, which Renault says will provide lower emissions and improved fuel economy. Some versions will comply with the latest Euro 6d emission standards, while maximum power for the twin turbo has been increased to 180PS and 400Nm of torque.

As before, the Master will be offered with front-wheel or rear-wheel drive with the engines coupled to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox. The Master is also available in Z.E guise, with an all-electric range of 74-miles.

The loadspace of the Master gets LED lighting for the first time, which should make it easier to load/unload at night. The interior dimensions remain unchanged, however, with the option of four lengths and three heights offering a load volume between 8.0 and 17 cubic metres and payloads up to 2122kg.

The cabin has been given an extensive overhaul; the redesigned dashboard gets a new rev-counter and monochrome five-inch digital screen, along with a docking station for a tablet computer.

2019 Trafic updates

The Trafic gets all-new engines with the old 1.6 dCi being replaced with a more powerful 2.0 dCi range of engines. The four-cylinder turbodiesels will all comply with the latest Euro6d standards and emit less harmful emissions and provide better fuel economy than the old 1.6-litre units, says Renault.

Power outputs for the 2.0 turbodiesel range from 120PS - 170PS, with a six-speed manual fitted as standard. The most powerful versions get the option of a six-speed EDC (efficient dual clutch) automatic transmission.

Load volumes start from 5.2 cubic metres for the short wheelbase Trafic and increase to 6.3 for the long wheelbase model. High roof versions will provide the most loadspace with a maximum of 8.6 cubic metres, while LED lighting is now fitted as standard. All versions of the Trafic will be hold three Euro pallets, while payloads will peak at 1200kg.

Official pricing, economy and specs will be confirmed in the summer, ahead of the 2019 Master and Trafic going on sale in the autumn.
