What is the cause of the white smoke when I start my Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi?

My 2005 Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi has done 147,000 miles. It had a previous issue where the glow plug light would flash and it would go into limp mode. I read various posts on here and it seemed that the arm from the actuator to the turbo wasn't moving freely. I used a turbo cleaner and it seemed to do the trick. The warning light disappeared but afterwards there was a lot of white smoke. I did a long motorway run, the smoke stopped and it was running fine. However, later that day the smoke was back and then disappeared again while driving. This problem happens whenever I start the car, what could be the cause?
White smoke indicates that the fuel being injected into the cylinder is not burning correctly (the smoke will burn your eyes). Given the high mileage it may be time to have the injectors checked and possibly serviced (they would normally be checked around the 100,000 miles).
