My insurer are refusing to honour my extended warranty - do they have to pay for repairs?

I purchased two years extended warranty on a Mercedes-Benz C-Class, purchased from Motorpoint. The car recently developed a fault, which was rectified by a Mercedes-Benz garage, having first received authorisation from AutoProtect. The insurer has now refused to pay because they say the invoice should be in the name of the car's supplier, Motorpoint. This is just the latest in a series of excuses to not pay. Do other readers have any experience of this company?

A warranty is a contract of insurance, I would first see if they are registered with the FCA: register.fca.org.uk/ if they are not, report them to the FCA.

Raise a complaint and ask they put in writing what the complaint process is. Then phone the Financial Ombudman Service if they are FCA registered. Ring the FOS first, then write. They will then contact the company involved to make them aware that they know of an ongoing complaint. If the company is not registered with the FCA, find out who regulates them and who provides arbitration. If AutoProtect have authorised the fault be repaired, did they put this in writing? If so, they have now contractually agreed to payment. If you've paid up front, advise AutoProtect you will be taking them through small claims court for the amount involved for breach of contract. Also, never buy a warranty from the same place you purchase the vehicle from. Always do your research first.
