Firestone launches new Vanhawk 3 tyre

Firestone has launched its new Firestone Vanhawk 3, the brand’s new summer, EV-ready van tyre for light commercial vehicles.

Replacing the Vanhawk 2, Firestone claims the Vanhawk 3 tyre delivers longer mileage, better efficiency and improved wet braking compared to its predecessor.

The Vanhawk 3 will be available from 15-inch to 17-inch in 20 short sizes and 23 long sizes – covering more than 95% of all vans on sale. It will be launched in January 2025.

It features what Firestone calls its 'Enliten' technology. This is designed to give improved wear efficiency through an increased tread depth and includes a new compound that minimises energy loss.

To help the wet braking performance, the Vanhawk 3 has optimised grooves and sipe distribution that maximises the amount of water that's pushed out.

Firestones own figures show the Vanhawk 3 gives 13% more mileage, a 10% reduction in rolling resistance and a 13% improvement in wet braking, compared to the Vanhawk 2. This gives it an EU B grade label for wet grip and a similar rating for fuel economy.

What are the speed limits for small vans?

I am thinking of changing from our ageing Citroen C3 Picasso to either a Citroen Berlingo or Peugot Rifter. I don't want to get caught by van speed limits though and it's hard to find clear info. What are the speed limits for these types of vans?
Although both of these are small vans and the Citroen Berlingo is also sold as a passenger car (to which car speed limits apply) the van versions are registered as commercial vehicles and must adhere to van speed limits – namely 50mph on single carriageway roads, 60mph on dual carriageways and 70mph on motorways when the national speed limit applies.
