Great Wall launches Steed special editions

The Chinese-built Great Wall Steed, Britain's cheapest 4x4 double-cab pick up, is now available in Steed Chrome and Steed Tracker special editions. Both have more than £800 worth of extras as standard - and both are now on sale for £14,998 plus VAT.

The Steed recently had its towing capacity and payload upgraded to 2500kg (braked) and 1050kg meaning the currently little-known commercial offers serious value for money.

The Steed Chrome (above) adds chrome side bars and sports bars, chrome fog-lamp surrounds, chrome rear-lamp finishers, stainless-steel door entry guards, an over-rail bedliner, tinted windows, metallic paint and carpet floor mats to the standard S equipment list. Great Walls says this is a pick-up for the 'lifestyle' buyers.

The Steed Tracker (below) gets special fit General Grabber All-Terrain Tyres, an over-rail bedliner, a towbar with audible monitor, front and rear mud flaps, rubber mats and metallic paint, and promises to be the 'perfect outdoor companion'.

Both Steeds also come with 16-inch alloy wheels, daytime running lights, remote central locking, a Thatcham-approved Category 1 alarm, electric front and rear windows, an Alpine CD/radio with USB/MP3 and Bluetooth connectivity, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, air-conditioning, heated fronted seats and a full leather interior.

There's currently only one engine option - a Great Wall 2.0-litre 16-valve turbocharged diesel that puts out 143PS and delivers an overall fuel economy of 34.0mpg (combined).
