Renault reveals new Trafic
Renault has revealed the next generation Trafic which will go on sale this summer. The new version of the popular medium van - of which there will also be a Vauxhall Vivaro equivalent - gets a new look with a bold front end and a prominent Renault badge.
It has a more sloping windscreen than the current model but retains the familiar Trafic shape and wraparound front bumper. Inside there's a completely new interior, although there are no pictures yet. But you can expect improvements in quality and comfort.
Under the bonnet will be a new Renault 1.6 dCi engine in two versions. The single turbo version is designed for economy while there's also a twin-turbocharged model which returns a claimed 39.2mpg. According to Renault both models offer brisk pick-up and greater low-end torque for responsive acceleration, even when the vehicle is fully loaded.
There will be 270 variants of the new Trafic available with two different heights and two different lengths. As well as the standard panel van there will also be crew cab versions along with minibus and chassis-cab variants. Renault is hoping the new Trafic will be a strong rival the Ford Transit Custom.
It will be officially launch in early April before going on sale here later in the year. Unlike the current generation model there will be no Nissan Primastar version – the next generation of Primastar will be unrelated to the Vauxhall/Renault platform.
