Citroen unveils 68.9mpg Berlingo

Citroen has unveiled its updated Berlingo. The new van gets a midlife refresh, with new engines and more equipment as standard. The revised Citroen Berlingo arrives at showrooms in the summer, with prices starting at £12,515 before VAT.

The Berlingo gets a new range of Euro 6 diesel and petrol engines, with the highlight being the BlueHDi 100, which Citroen claims will return 68.9mpg and emit 109g/km of CO2. The 1.6-litre diesel gets a 10PS power hike over the Euro 5 engine it will eventually replace, with 100PS and 254Nm of torque.

The BlueHDi engine can also be specified with 120PS, which raises torque to considerable 300Nm at 1750rpm. However, economy suffers, with a claimed 64.2mpg. The sole Euro 6 petrol comes in the form of a 1.6-litre with 95PS and 152Nm of torque.

For a limited time, and a lower cost, buyers can specify the existing Euro 5 diesel engines, with 75PS and 90PS. All engines are linked to a five or six-speed manual gearbox, depending on the power variant.  

As well as more power, the Berlingo van gets a mild exterior refresh, with a redesigned grille, new front bumpers and the option of LED daytime-running lights. 

Standard equipment is notably better than the outgoing model, with all Berlingos getting cruise control, programmable speed limiter, navigation and stolen vehicle tracking. A seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system can also be added as a paid for option, along with DAB radio and a reversing camera.

As before, the Berlingo is available in two panel van lengths, with up to 850kg of load space. The layout remain the same as before, with a modular three-seat setup at the front and two lengths available: L1, with a 3.7 cubic metre load space, and L2, boasting 4.1 cubic metres.
