CV Show 2016: New Toyota Hilux and Hiace to make UK debuts
Toyota is expected to unveil its new commercial vehicle line-up at the CV Show 2016 at the NEC Birmingham on the 26 - 28 April, with both the Proace panel van and Hilux pick-up both rumoured to be getting their respective UK debuts at the show.
Details on the new Hilux – pictured above – are still scarce, but UK models are expected to get Toyota’s new 177PS 2.8-litre D-4D turbodiesel engine along with a 150PS 2.4-litre diesel. The larger 177PS unit will be the same unit used in the updated Land Cruiser and, although smaller than the 3.0-litre engine it’s replacing, will offer 25 per cent more torque with 450Nm.
As well as improved economy and power delivery, the new Hilux will also get more towing capacity; however, Toyota is yet to confirm what the new ratings will be. Expect the Hilux to reach showrooms by the winter of 2016 and boast a new car-like interior, with better refinement and more standard equipment.
The new Proace - pictured below – will reach the UK in the summer of 2016 and is the result of a co-development project between Citroen Peugeot and Toyota. The van will be built in northern France and be powered by a new range of four-cylinder diesels, with outputs varying from 102PS to 180PS.
The Proace will look to dislodge the current mid-sized van champions - Ford Transit Custom and Volkswagen Transporter - and feature mobile office style cabin, with improved connectivity for smartphones and laptops. There's no details on payloads yet, but we expect the Proace to match its rivals with a maximum payloads of between 729kg and 1333kg.
The CV Show 2016 takes place Birmingham's NEC from 26 - 28 April. Entry is free.
