Wellhouse launches Hyundai-based i-Camper
UK camper van conversion specialist Wellhouse has unveiled the new i-Camper, a luxury campervan based on the latest Hyundai i800. Available to order now, the i-Camper range starts from £42,000.
The i800 base, which is unusual by virtue of being rear-wheel drive, has been updated for 2016 and features a Euro6 rated 2.5-litre 136PS diesel engine that returns 33.2mpg with a manual gearbox; a 170PS version with an automatic gearbox is available too.
With the most basic manual i800 costing £24,845, the Wellhouse i-Camper conversion comes in at just over £17,000 on top, although there are a few slightly more expensive versions called Nero, Rosso and Bianco which add an additional £3500 to the list price.
The standard specification is high, however, with all conversions including a SMEV mini oven and grille, a 47-litre compressor fridge, blown air heating, 42-litre fresh and waste water tanks, an external shower and a portable toilet. Five belted seats are standard too.
The special editions come with bigger alloy wheels than the standard sixteens, two-tone leather upholstery and front armrests. A high-top roof is a no-cost option, though you’ll have to put more money down for options like a roof bed, leather upholstery (for the standard i-Camper) and a Thule Roll-out awning.
The interior will look familiar to anyone that’s been in a Volkswagen California, being based on a side kitchen layout and a rear bench that folds into a double bed. Unlike the California, however, the i-Camper has twin sliding side doors.
