Ford expands camper line-up with new derivatives of the Ford Transit Custom Nugget
Ford has announced details of its expanded factory-approved camper van line up, with new long-wheelbase and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) derivatives of the Ford Transit Custom Nugget, as well as a new ‘Active’ trim level and an optional all-wheel-drive set-up.
The new range-topping Transit Custom Nugget Active builds on the Titanium specification and has chunkier SUV-inspired styling, bespoke 17-inch alloy wheels and LED taillights.
The interior now gets water-resistant seat fabric as well, as the model is aimed at those with outdoor lifestyles.
The Ford Transit Custom Nugget Active also gets a Driver Assistance Pack as standard, featuring Pre-Collision Assist, Reverse Brake Assist and a Blind Spot Information System, along with Adaptive Cruise Control. Ford’s Smart Camper Touchscreen provides centralised control and monitoring of the camper's functions including lighting, heating, water levels and more when parked.
The Ford Transit Custom Nugget Active can be specified with an optional all-wheel drive system and is equipped with a 170PS EcoBlue 2.0-litre diesel engine with eight-speed automatic transmission.
A new longer wheelbase version of the Transit Custom Nugget is available for both Titanium and Active variants with the full range of powertrains. The more spacious model builds on the multi-zone unique interior layout and allows for a larger kitchen area with more worktop space for food prep, as well as more storage for pans and utensils. On the other side of the living area, storage capacity is increased with a larger built-in wardrobe. Drivers will also be able to specify an alternative interior layout that includes a built-in toilet.
The Ford Transit Custom Nugget will also be offered with a PHEV powertrain for the first time, the same as that used in the Ford Transit Custom PHEV panel van.
It uses a 2.5-litre Atkinson-Cycle petrol engine combined with an 11.8 kWh battery and electric motor to produce 233PS and the ability to drive using pure-electric power for up to 45 miles.
