BYD reveals new large electric van for Europe

The Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD has revealed a new large delivery van developed for and aimed specifically at European markets.

It comes after the company revealed new additions to its passenger car line-up at The British Motor Show 2024, as it expands its presence across all sectors of the automotive industry in the UK and Europe.

The E-Vali was revealed at the IAA Transportation in Hannover, aimed at last-mile and courier delivery services. The van – similar in size to the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter – will be available in 3.5-tonne and 4.25-tonne layouts and features BYD’s Blade Battery technology already used in its passenger cars. It uses an 80.64kWh unit that promises a WLTP range of 135-160 miles, and is set up for vehicle-to-load power take-off, so other devices can be charged by the vehicle battery.

The 3.5t model will offer a cargo volume of 13.9 cubic metres, rising to 17.9 cubic metres in the 4.25t model, with payloads of 700kg and 1,450kg respectively. As shown, the E-Vali comes with a single sliding side door and large, wide-opening 60:40 hinged rear barn doors, though further configurations are expected once launched.

It also features a walk-through cab with 2.78m of standing capacity and a modern fascia, with a large touchscreen offering split-screen views, as well as wireless inductive charging for smartphones and handheld delivery devices. The E-Vali also features a foldable table concealed with the centre console, an in-cab cool box and multiple advanced safety features including adaptive intelligent cruise control, forward collision alert, rear cross traffic warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure assist, blind spot detection and hill hold/decent control

Which vans have the most cab space and driver legroom?

I need to buy, rent or lease my first panel van. I'm 6'4" tall and nearly as wide. Which medium-sized, tall roof vans have the most cab space and driver legroom?
This is a tricky one. The best medium size vans are the Volkswagen Transporter T6 and Ford Transit Custom. But both have an upright driving position that makes it (painfully) easy to catch your knee against the steering column when getting in and out. The Mercedes-Benz Vito might be better for your needs.
