Hard shouldered

We recently changed our car insurances and have a much better and cheaper deal from Saga than our old company. Loyalty certainly did not pay. However, we have been persuaded to change our roadside assistance from the AA to Saga too. (Much cheaper for all the same services, £90 against £135.) My husband has been a member of the AA since 1961 and myself from 1970 and on the rare occasions we have needed them the AA have been superb. Saga and the AA are owned by the same company so have we done the right thing? Will the service be the same? How can it be considerably cheaper to use Saga? Have you had any reports, or advice on this?

The thing about the AA and RAC is they can probably fix your car at the roadside. Other rescue operators sometimes don't even try and simply transport your car to the nearest garage where you have to pay to get it fixed. Obviously, for big jobs, this will be the same with the AA. But I'd rather have a bloke who might be able to get me going again than someone who automatically hauls me off to a garage. My company car AA policy just came up and the premium was £139 for two years so the heavy increases are not universal.
