Photo finish

My wife and I still have the old style green paper driving licences, of which mine expires when I am 70 in January 2014, and my wife's in 2018. I have been told by several people that we will have to renew them sooner as this style of licence will no longer be legal. Please could you tell me if this is true?

Not that I know of, but now we're definitely not getting identity cards it would be wise to switch to photocards if you ever want to drive in other countries, and especially if you want to hire a car in another country. The problem is, if you switch, your photocards will still expire at age 70 and you will have to renew them then. But if you have a biometric passport photo, the DVLA can get your image from the Passport Agency so you don't have to go through the hassle of
having your photos authenticated.
