Tyre wary

My 2005 Audi A3 Sportback 1.6FSI was fitted with Michelin XSE 225/45R17 91Y tyres when I bought it new. At 29,000 miles it was re-shod with Michelin Pilot Sport SP2. Now at 42,000 miles I am advised that I will shortly need to buy new tyres. This seems to be a very poor performance. What would you advise me to purchase? I would prefer to buy a bigger profile.
