I would be grateful for your advice. We have a 2008 VW 1.4TDI Polo SE which is generally fine, but the headlight main beam is rather weak and adds little to distance vision at night. Our dealer dismissively said that more powerful bulbs are not available, and that anyway it would be a difficult matter leading to fuse changes and the like. Is this the end of the matter? If so and we don't supplement the lights in some other way it means that open-road speed limits at night will be somewhat academic for us.

Forget this unhelpful VW dealer and talk to Halfords, which specialises in this and offers a fitting service. (R.C. did exactly that and got what he wanted in a day when the fitting service was discounted.) But remember, badly adjusted HID headlights are a menace to oncoming drivers and you could be prosecuted for this.
