I will shortly be leaving my 9-year-old (but extremely reliable) BMW 520i for 3 weeks at an airport surface carpark and am slightly worried it may not start on my return. Should I disconnect the battery? Is there anything else I should do (apart from ensuring that there are no lights left on, of course). Any advice appreciated.

Best not to disconnect because you will lose various codes. A new battery in the car is a good idea, left fully charged by your journey to the airport. Make sure you switch everything off, including the radio, heater fan and interior light, before you switch off the ignition otherwise they may not completely switch off and as a result cause a drain on the battery.
