I drive a 1991 Saab 900 Carlsson, which I have had virtually from new. It is now approaching 150,000 miles and I am becoming worried because so far almost nothing has gone wrong. Apart from minor welding around the front suspension mountings and a clutch master cylinder everything else is original, the clutch, shock absorbers and even light bulbs. I am now covering only around 2,000 miles a year and do not really want to change the car, which has a very limited exchange value anyway. Can I expect some expensive bills in the next few years, which would make keeping it expensive, or should I make a change now and if so what would you suggest?

The honest answer is, I don't know. Be a shame to scrap an old friend for no good reason, and the cheapest new cars on scrappage are £5,000 - £6,000. (Availability of anything any good is poor.) So I'd motor on in your classic SAAB until you encounter a problem that is so expensive it isn't worth repairing. This is most likely to occur in the winter
