Toyota Yaris Cross - when should I use regenerative braking?

The handbook for my Toyota Yaris Cross advises only using regenerative braking when on a long descent. Does that mean I shouldn't use B mode all of the time? If so, why?

The primary reason for not using 'B' (max regen braking) mode all the time is it's less efficient than letting the car coast in many situations. While regen braking does recover energy there are still losses, which means in a situation where you want to slow down gradually you will use less fuel by lifting off the throttle and letting the car gently reduce speed.
