New BMW 530d has 'characteristic noise' which garage can't or won't cure.

I have spent 12 months at my BMW dealer trying to get a problem cured on a new car. The engine resonates at about 1750 rpm in all gears. 1750 is about 70mph in top gear so motorway driving has to be done at 65 or 80! The garage accept that this is so.

They have tried to cure it and it has been in the garage (at their expense) for about 9 days all told. They agree that the noise exists but now say that they will go no further as the noise/resonance is 'characteristic' of this engine.

They have been in contact with BMW who also agree that the car does make this noise. They haven't managed to let me drive another car that makes a similar noise.

I've owned BMWs for many years, including a previous 530d and know that the engine noise is unsatifactory. Where do I go from here?

Is it a manual? If so, might be the dual mass flywheel. Otherwise, if BMW can't cure it I don't see what you can do apart from p/x the car.
