Which estate should I buy?

I own a 10 year old Peugeot 406 GLX diesel estate. Its a comfy, useful load lugger and quite economical but its getting to the age when things need replacing and could get costly so I'm after some advice as to what to replace it with of similar size.

I need a car that's reasonably economical, cheap on VED, reliable and doesn't have a funny flywheel or need to be booked into a dealer to change the light bulb! I need something with enough grunt to haul us from Essex to Cumbria during school hols.

My budget is about £5,500-£6000

There isn't anything. They all have dual mass flywheels. No car these days is designed to be easy and cheap to maintain. Your best bet is probably a mileagy current model 2008 Mondeo 2.0TDCI estate. NOT the 1.8 diesel.
