Is it true that an electronic upgrade to my 2010 Audi A6 could increase the power to over 200hp?

There are a number of what look like reputable companies advertising simple-to-install electronic upgrades that are claimed to increase the power output and economy of turbo diesel engines. They also claim that they are easy to remove and are undetectable once taken out - although they offer their own warranty, suggesting that manufactures take a dim view. The engine of my 2010 Audi A6 is said to be increased from 168 hp to just over 200 hp. Can all this be true? How do insurance companies respond to such upgrades? A reasonable extra charge or a massive hike?

There are some very good reprogramming specialists. Bluefin from www.superchips.co.uk is probably the best as it reprogrammes the ECU via the OBDII port and deprogrammes it leaving no trace. It both improves torque at low revs, leading to better economy, and gives more power at the top end, though using that will, of course, increase fuel consumed. The only problem might be if you had a crash that left your car too badly damaged for you to deprogramme the ECU. Then the insurer could find you out.
