What's the best way of ensuring the safe, private sale of my Toyota Yaris for cash?

I have advertised my Toyota Yaris for sale privately on Gumtree, Loot and newsagencies today. What is a safe way to receive payment that will satisfy me and the customer? I am advertising at £4,250 and I can't expect them to bring that in cash, however I cannot hand over the car for only a deposit of £250. I need cleared payment before I hand over the keys, but they would have to trust me and may refuse. Please can you tell me the best way to make this transaction? Also I expect the client would want a test drive? I think I would feel safer asking my boyfriend/mum/brother to come in the car as well. Would this be considered OK?

As Mike Brewer advises, “Nelsons.” (Nelson Eddies = readies.) Do the deal, then meet the buyer in a bank during banking hours where he pays you cash and you immediately bank the cash. That is the only 100 per cent safe way of taking payment and releasing the car to the buyer the same day. A test drive is illegal unless the buyer is insured. He might be insured to drive your car third party on his own insurance. He might not. You need to see his certificate.

Better to use www.sure-sell.info that saves the cost of advertising, taking phone calls from conmen, waiting for buyers who don't show up, illegal test drives, intimidation and problems with the method of payment.
