Please warn your readers in the Glasgow area about the local council's issuing of council tickets to concert-goers at the SECC.

I thought I should bring to your attention the latest money making scheme from Glasgow District Council. For many years I have attended concerts at the SECC and the Armadillo and have parked over on the other side of the dual carriageway, as trying to get out of the SECC car parking is a shambles. You have to pay as you leave, not as you enter, and it can end up taking longer to get out than the concert lasted. Until now there has never been an issue.

On 9 June I parked in Minerva Street, Glasgow at around 7:00pm - no yellow lines, not up on the pavement and my wife also checked the lampposts for any signs. I returned to my car to find I had been issued with a parking ticket at 8:00 p.m. as I was parked in a "Restricted Street". When I phoned the next day to ask where this was signposted, I was sheepishly told by the GDC person on the phone that there was a sign as you enter from Argyle Street. I informed her that I didn't enter from there but had come in the dual carriageway side, only to be told I by the person on the phone, "I think there is a sign there as well".

I have no problem with cars which are causing an obstruction being booked but GDC has obviously realised it can make a significant amount of money by having wardens patrol this area late in the evening, when concerts are being held, because people don't know or realise they are parking "illegally".
