I have written to my MP regarding the proposed Protection of Freedoms Bill and received a response.

Having had someone in my family caught out by parking on a private land with poor signage I wrote to my MP voicing my concern about Clause 56 in the proposed Freedoms Bill (pages 38/39) and got a response. As far as I can see, it confirms my worse fear and that private parking companies are going to get more unfair powers and the green light to con more people.

Thank you for that. Of course, if the Bill is passed intact, then we will be keeping an eye on how the BPA enforces its rules on its members and if anything unacceptable, or illegal under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 occurs, we will be bringing it to the attention of the public and the tide of public opinion over this issue will decide what happens. It may take years for the rip-offs to be curbed. But that’s the way of our sleepy country, the citizens of which do not rise up against unfair laws in sufficient numbers until they directly feel the effect of them.
