Wobbly wheels on a Focus

Three days ago I had two new tyres fitted to my Focus, front passenger was worn to 2mm and rear drivers had sidewall damage. The new tyres were both put on the front axle and the existing two tyres on the rear (both have 5mm tread remaining).

The car then developed a vibration through the steering wheel at speeds of 55-65 mph that I can only describe as wheel wobble. I returned to the tyre centre and reported the problem.

They checked the wheels and tyres and identified a flat spot in the front passenger alloy wheel which they could not balance out. I bought a new alloy from the nearest Ford Dealer and had the tyre dealer fit the tyre on this new rim.

The wobble continued, I again returned to the tyre dealer and after one of the fitters came out in the car with me he checked all of the wheels for flat spot damage and the tyre balance again 'on the finest setting and they are all now zero'.

Despite this the vibration/wobble is still occurring at around 60mph. After spending £140 on 2 tyres, £180 on a new alloy wheel, £15 on the tyre fitting and almost 4 hours of my time I am very frustrated, have lost confidence with the tyre dealer and seem to be not much further forward.

I would be grateful for your advice as to the cause of the wobble and what the solution may be.

The new tyres should never have been put on the front. They should have been put on the back. Try this anyway.
