Mini One Steering Rack & Power Steering Pump

The power steering pump and steering rack on my sister's low mileage 2004 Mini One 1.6 petrol, manual, convertable have gone and need replacing. Do you know if these are common faults with Minis and if, despite the age of the car, BMW offer any good-will contributions?

If yes please advise, if no is there a garage you can recommend to carry out the work ? The car is currently in Catford, London.

Yes, common. But at eight years old very little chance of any goodwill.
