16" spare wheel but 17" fitted all round

Just had my first puncture on my T Spirit, which has factory fitted 17" wheels. The compact spare is 16". I'm having to wait for the replacement tyre to be delivered, so am driving with the spare on the rear n/s.

It now generates a strange drumming vibration on the road. The spare is inflated to 60psi and I'm not exceeding 50mph. Why have Toyota fitted a different size spare to the rest? And is there likely to be any damage/ill-effects from running on this configuration?

Handling is obviously compromised. But remember that braking will also be severely compromised, particularly in the wet. Leave plenty of space in front and always brake gradually.
