Getting Third Party details from insurer
A few months ago my car was hit by a third party vehicle. Initially after the accident I made a note about the other driver's details. As there was almost no visible damage to neither mine or his car we agreed on the spot that none of us is going to make a claim with our insurers.
However, after a couple of months I got an information from my insurer that the other party had made a claim anyway. Unfortunately I have misplaced his details and I have been trying to get those from my insurer. At first I was told that they cannot give me those details over the phone and I would have to make such a request in writing, which I did.
After not hearing from them for over a month, I gave them a call and was told they cannot give me the other party's car registration number and only his name (sic!). They kept hiding behind Data Protection Act. In my view it is kind of illogical for them to give me the name of the person and not the reg number. Is there any way I can get the reg number from my insurer as I now want to challenge the claim?

If someone has made a claim against you that affects your future premiums and you want to challenge this, your insurer has to give you all of their details. If your insurer refuses, get a court order.
