Which small eco car?
We are looking at changing from our disappointingly uneconomical Civic 2.2, which averages 38.4 MPG.
We are thinking about one of the “Eco” super minis on the market, namely the:
Toyota Yaris Hybrid
Kia Rio 1.1 diesel
Pug 208 1.6 e-Hdi
The Toyota is high on the list due to hearing good things from my Father (RAC Patrol) on reliability.
The thing that concerns me is as we live in West Cornwall they will have to contend with a mix of town, dual carriage ways and country roads, while tackling the many hills and valleys, and maybe the odd trip up country 2 or 3 time a year, but generally only a few miles to the shop and maybe a weekly 20 miles to Truro.
I am trying to find out how the MPG will hold up in these conditions, and will the Yaris Hybrid be suited to this kind of life, or would we be better of with another option?

We got the stated 83mpg out of a Yaris hybrid driving on the flat in Holland. That's not as favourable as it seems because there were no hills to descent to regenerate. Road test here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/toyota/toyota-yari.../ I think you'll get 60mpg +. As for the Civic, I got 45mpg on a run out of the old 1.8i and 48mpg out of the current 1.8i. Don't think there's much future for the 2.2iCTDI in the Civic. Will all be 1.6iDTECs. That's tested here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/honda/honda-civic-.../
