Which tyres will reduce road noise on my Audi A3?

The current, original tyres on my 2008 Audi A3 S-Line are Potenza REO50A 225/40R18 92Y and are very noisy. I need to replace them. What do you recommend for quietness, safety and fuel economy?

Get rid of the stupid 18-inch wheels as well and fit 16-inch wheels with 205/55 R16 tyres, either Michelin Primacy 3 or Goodyear Excellence. 225/40 R18s will always be noisy, especially when they start to wear down. If you swap wheels, you will have to tell your insurer.
