Why does this journalist say that the latest Ford Focus is suited to blue collar families?

I think it rather condescending of Andrew English (first drive reviews) to say that the latest Ford Focus 'brings an unmatched standard of equipment to blue collar families'. I saw a guy wearing a white shirt and tie driving a Ford Focus the other day.

The way I see it, a well known brand of ‘German’ car is of such high quality that it's worth spending money on repairs. A Ford is of such low quality that it rarely needs repairs.
