Why do supermarkets enforce car parking regulations when they put off customers?

Some years ago I was "stung" for parking overtime in a Morrisons Supermarket car park run by another company. It was in the evening and the park was less than half-full. I complained to the supermarket, who basically said "tough". I wrote back saying they would lose my business of approx £5000 a year, and since then wrote to them occasionally to confirm this loss, though I no longer do so. Their loss to date amounts to something in the region £40,000.

That's what happens when a business hands any kind of 'protection' over to outfits that are only in it for the money.
