Should I buy winter tyres for my BMW 1M or buy a winter runabout?

I recently bought a BMW 1M which I really love, but I guess it will be useless in the winter without winter tyres. I think a new set of wheels and tyres will be around £2000. For that money would I be better garaging it for the winter and buying a runabout and if so, what should I buy for the money?

I've driven a Porsche 991 Carrera S and a Mercedes E63 AMG on Michelin winter tyres in snow in Latvia and was amazed at the level of control, so cars like this can be made to work. Also I strongly advise you to get a Disklok (www.disklok.co.uk) to protect this car against theft because it is particularly vulnerable.
