Can I run my SUV without a spare wheel?

I've just bought a 2012 Subaru XV, but it doesn't have a spare wheel. Should I buy one, or can I run an SUV without a spare?

A potentially catastrophic problem if you get a puncture in the middle of the countryside (which is the most likely place). At least buy a space saver. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/our-cars/mazda-6-22d-se-l-nav.../
