Should I buy an old shape Volvo V70 with lower miles or a new shape with a higher mileage?

Should I buy a late model but older shape Volvo V70 (say, a 2006/7 model) with a low mileage or spend another £3000 or so on a newer shape V70 but with higher miles? I will be doing mainly motorway cruising and am looking at a diesel estate and plan to hang onto the car for about five years.

Both the previous and current V70 are good cars and very robustly built. But if you're looking at selling the car in five years, you're likely to get better money for the newer shape model, even if it does have more miles, as the older model has been on sale since 2000. However, a £3000 saving on the previous shape is very tempting, so if you like the car and it's been well looked after, it should serve you well for the next five years and will make an ideal motorway car. Make sure it has a full service history though.
