Should I replace a repaired tyre?

I have recently bought a 2005 Porsche Boxster S and a recent inspection has shown the front offside tyre has had a plug repair in the middle of the tyre and part of the plug is proud of the tread.

I am going to drive to Italy and will be cruising at 80/85 mph for periods up to 5/6 hours at a time. Should I keep this tyre or replace it?

Definitely change it. That is a temporary repair. If you bought from a dealer, check the tread depth and have him pay his share of the new tyre. He should never have sold the car to you in that state.
