Are Volkswagen CCs susceptable to gearbox faults?

My Volkswagen CC is two months out of its three year warranty and a spring on the clutch has broken and worn groove in the gearbox, causing a pinhole to appear. The fault will cost £2700 to repair.

When I was at the dealer there was another CC in with exactly the same problem, but this was inside the warranty and therefore being fixed free of charge. Is this a known problem with CC clutches and gearboxes?

This is the same engine and transmission as in other VAG models, notably the Passat. Just one report of clutch failure so far and that on a 2011 Passat 1.6TDI. of course, the 2011 Passat and CC are only just coming out of warranty, so it is only now that people start to complain of problems that have not been fixed under warranty. The 2004-2011 has the most reported faults of any car in our records.
