How long does it take to fit a new engine?

I own a 2010 Volkswagen Golf, which has done 34,000 miles. A few weeks ago the car developed a misfire and my local dealer charged eight hours at £80 per hour. The diagnosis is a cracked piston ring and a new engine is needed, but they say it will take 15 hours at the same rate. Am I being ripped off?

That's £1200 of labour to fit a new engine. I can't imagine the job taking 15 hours.
