Should I buy a car with gaps in its history?

I'm thinking of buying a Jaguar S-Type (2006 model) for £4500. I've had a HPI mileage check, which indicates the car "disappears" between November 2009 (52,381 miles), and September 2013 when the mileage is 79,000. I've booked it in for an RAC inspection, but do you have any idea why there are gaps in its history?

May have gone abroad. But if it was in the UK then the mileage date should be on the DVSA database. I wouldn't pay £300 or so to have a car inspected by the RAC when I am already suspicious of the car. I'd find another.
