Revs increase when breaking

I own a 2012 Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SRI. I bought it (used) six weeks ago, but noticed when breaking to stop (break pressed and clutch in) the revs rise to around 1400/1500rpm, hold for split second, then drop to idle around 900/1000rpm.

Does this sound like an issue that needs repair or just something that the engine does as part of the breaking process? (or is it something in the way I am driving it!?)

Just the emissions correcting themselves by supplying enough air to burn the fuel still supplied when you lift off. Worth getting the fuelling checked, though, which means some of the dreaded 'diagnostics'.
