My 2006 BMW 320d has developed a central locking fault two months after I bought it - should the dealer repair it?
I purchased a 2006 BMW 320d E Touring Auto for £14,000 from a private dealer on 8 May 2010. Today, the car has developed a fault with the central locking system and I am unable to unlock the driver, passenger or nearside rear passenger doors, nor am I able to lock the offside rear passenger door. Given that I have owned the car for under three months, please could you let me know if I should expect anything from the dealer in way of repairs or warranty? I'd actually decided that the car boot was too small for me and hence wanted to sell the car anyway, but obviously I need to fix this issue first.

There's no such thing as a 'private dealer'. All dealers are subject to the same consumer protection law in the FAQs on this site. In law, the dealer is liable to repair the car or give you your money back. But you cannot get it repaired and send him the bill. You have to refer the matter to him.
