Ford Fiesta speeding up on its own

I was on the motorway recently in my 2010 Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCI and the car started speeding up on its own accord. I applied the brakes and lifted my foot off of the accelerator, but still it sped up. It eventually stopped when I took it out of gear. I got towed home and now the car now makes a terrible knocking noise and is running very badly. Any idea what has happened?

That because it was overfilled with oil or because the turbo bearing oil seals have failed. Basically the compression ignition engine was running on its sump oil. I would guess that when it ran uncontrollably it damaged its little end or big end bearings.
